A cancer patient recently received overwhelming support from the crypto community after a scammer embezzled $32,000 from his treatment fund. He raised more than enough for his healthcare needs and has since started donating the extra funds.

In today’s troubling climate of rising scams and political unrest, instances like this highlight the positive aspects of crypto. For a brief moment, the community united to address a significant injustice.

Earlier this week, Steam took down a game called “Block Blasters” after community detectives alerted them that it contained malware designed to steal crypto. The game had been live for months, but only a massive public outcry prompted its removal.

However, the broader story is less well-known. It centers around one cancer patient, a dangerous scam, and the unity of the crypto community.

26-year-old Twitch streamer rastalandTV is battling stage 4 cancer and turned to crypto to raise funds for his treatment. He created a CANCER meme coin on Pump.fun and promoted it through his streams.

This token garnered a decent amount of interest, raising approximately $32,000 from supporters.

However, a shocking scam soon followed. A hacker made an on-stream donation to this user, urging him to play Block Blasters, claiming it was an indie favorite.

In reality, this game swiftly drained all of RastalandTV’s crypto wallets, depleting the fees collected from his CANCER token.

This alarming event prompted the community to rally in support of this streamer’s battle against cancer. Investigators identified the culprit, a young Argentinian living in Miami, and successfully urged Steam to eliminate Block Blasters along with other malware-infested crypto games.

Additionally, the crypto community propelled CANCER to new heights. Its market cap briefly neared $8 million before rastalandTV announced he had sufficient funds to continue his treatment.

Consequently, interest in the token began to dwindle, though not entirely.

Since then, this Twitch streamer has started donating the surplus funds to various charitable causes.

Alongside significant contributions to cancer research organizations, rastalandTV has also been utilizing his crypto for a mutual aid initiative, assisting other terminal patients in need.

In recent weeks, the meme coin community has rallied in response to several distressing news items. The crypto community needs uplifting stories like CANCER, too.

Despite this episode illuminating the harsh and mercenary nature of today’s scammers, ultimately better impulses prevailed.

Decentralized finance possesses the remarkable ability to unite people and foster positive change in the world. Regardless of how bleak circumstances may appear, we always have the option to aid one another.
