Lamina1, the blockchain content platform established by sci-fi author Neal Stephenson, has teamed up with Consensys’ layer-2 network Linea to enable creator-owned media on Ethereum.
This collaboration aims to transform digital storytelling by providing creators with control over their intellectual property and direct access to their audiences, as per an announcement shared with Cointelegraph.
The partnership includes investments from Joe Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of Consensys, along with Systemic Ventures. “Neal Stephenson is a key figure in cyberpunk,” Lubin noted. “Lamina1 is ideally positioned to lead the onchain revolution in content creation,” he added.
Launched in 2022, Lamina1 seeks to empower artists, writers, and developers to retain control over their intellectual property while engaging fans in the creative process. Since its inception, the platform has recorded over 150,000 active addresses.

Spaces launches on Linea as the initial product
The first product on Linea is called Spaces, which will host interactive story-driven environments and creator-controlled IP.
The inaugural project within Spaces is Artefact, developed by Stephenson, Weta Workshop, and the Lamina1 team. It is described as a role-playing experience set in a post-AI world, allowing players to join various factions, gather data fragments, and influence the unfolding narrative.
“Linea’s zkEVM offers an optimal setting for creator-centric platforms like Lamina1’s Spaces, thanks to its swift, affordable, and secure blockspace leveraging Ethereum’s decentralization, along with fully EVM-compatible development, ZK-proofs for rapid finality between Ethereum and Linea, and a thriving onchain economy as the largest ZK-rollup,” stated Declan Fox, vice president and head of Linea.
Fox also mentioned that user data, digital assets, and creative IP on Linea are secured by Verax, an attestation platform allowing creators to attach verifiable credentials to their works. “This robust infrastructure has already facilitated millions of attestations for use cases like Proof of Humanity,” he added.
Linea’s zkEVM technology is designed to support scalable Ethereum applications with low fees and high performance. This expansion follows Linea’s recent Token Generation Event and indicates growing momentum for creative applications in the Ethereum layer-2 ecosystem.

Airdrops for long-term LINEA holders
Earlier this month, Lubin indicated that long-term holders of the new LINEA token might receive future rewards. In a post on X, he suggested that retaining tokens over time could qualify users for airdrops from Consensys or other projects within the ecosystem.
These comments emerged following community concerns regarding the utility of the LINEA token after its token generation event. One user urged the team to enable staking or lending to provide real utility to the token, while others critiqued the project, labeling LINEA a “memecoin” with no apparent value beyond speculation.
