Ethereum developers have officially confirmed the long-anticipated Fusaka upgrade set for December 3, following a decision made during the network’s bi-weekly coordination call on Thursday.
This advancement initiates the countdown to Ethereum’s second hard fork of 2025.
The standout feature of the Fusaka upgrade is PeerDAS, which is among the 12 enhancements included in the release. PeerDAS enables validators to verify only segments of data instead of entire “blobs,” leading to a significant reduction in bandwidth requirements and costs for both validators and layer-2 networks. This will enhance Ethereum’s efficiency and affordability for users conducting transactions and developers building on the platform.
The decision was finalized during the All Core Developers Consensus Layer (ACDC) call #168, just two days following the successful deployment of the upgrade on Hoodi, the third and final testnet, with no issues.
The upgrade will activate on the Ethereum mainnet once the blockchain reaches slot 13,164,544, which is expected to happen at 21:49 UTC on December 3.
“Let’s proceed with this,” stated Alex Stokes, an Ethereum Foundation researcher who leads the ACDC calls. “This was a substantial effort to bring this together by this time, so thank you for that. This is an exciting fork.”
