crypto news U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis bitcoin option02 1

Senator Cynthia Lummis, a strong advocate for Bitcoin, has announced she will not run for reelection in 2026, citing a lack of stamina for another term. However, she intends to utilize her remaining time to champion crucial cryptocurrency legislation.

    Summary

    • Lummis declared on X that she will not seek another term, emphasizing that while her commitment to Wyoming remains steadfast, she feels she lacks the energy for another six-year stint.
    • The “Bitcoin senator” maintains her unwavering support for cryptocurrency and aims to push significant digital asset legislation to Trump’s desk by 2026.
    • Crypto influencers, including White House AI and crypto advisor David Sacks and entrepreneur Mario Nawfal, praised her contributions, while skeptics questioned her motives.

Senator Lummis, well-known for her support of cryptocurrency legislation, revealed her decision not to run for reelection next year via a statement on the social media platform X.

“It has been a profound honor to represent Wyoming in the U.S. Senate, and throughout my tenure, my focus has been solely on Wyoming,” Lummis shared in her statement.

The Wyoming Republican clarified that her choice does not signify a shift in her pro-crypto viewpoint. She noted that recent intense legislative sessions have shown that she no longer possesses the stamina needed for another term.

    Senator Lummis reaffirms crypto advocacy

“I consider myself a dedicated legislator, but I feel like a sprinter trying to run a marathon. The required energy levels don’t align,” she remarked.

Lummis expressed her gratitude for President Donald Trump’s backing and indicated her intent to prioritize critical legislation, aiming for it to reach the president’s desk by 2026, as per her statement.

In response to the announcement, David Sacks, the White House’s AI and crypto advisor, expressed that Lummis has been a vital ally in cryptocurrency policy and expressed regret over her departure.

Mario Nawfal, the founder and CEO of the International Blockchain Consulting Group, thanked Lummis for her support of Bitcoin, stating, “You made a significant impact,” Nawfal expressed.

Some commentators have raised concerns about Lummis’s decision. Musician Bill Madden shared a video offering potential insights, suggesting that her announcement signals a retreat from what he termed the “authoritarian pedophile and his lawless regime,” alluding to President Trump.

Another observer proposed that her decision may be connected to the release of the Epstein files and a supposed link to the Bitcoin Foundation, although they acknowledged this may be coincidental.
