The Sandbox to Reduce Workforce and Revamp Leadership Following Low Engagement
Metaverse platform The Sandbox is planning to let go of more than half of its 250 staff members and is set to close offices in locations including Argentina, Uruguay, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey, and soon in Lyon.
Raymond stated that project co-founders Sebastian Borges and Arthur Madrid have relinquished their management roles and will be succeeded by Animoca Brands CEO Robbie Young, who will now oversee The Sandbox.
Low User Engagement Sparks Major Overhaul
Raymond clarified that these extensive changes are a direct reaction to the lack of user engagement. Despite receiving $300 million over the last eight years, The Sandbox currently only has a few hundred daily active users, with many being bots.
The co-founder further indicated that a fresh platform for memecoins on the Base blockchain is on the verge of launching, indicating a strategic shift for the company.
SAND Token Faces Challenges Amid Restructuring
The SAND token has decreased approximately 97% from its peak value, currently trading around $0.28, reflecting investor apprehensions regarding the platform’s diminishing activity.
