Jon Rice, an experienced media professional in the crypto space, has resumed the position of editor-in-chief at Cointelegraph, having previously overseen the newsroom at three specialized publications.
Rice held this role during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21 and originally launched the long-form Cointelegraph Magazine. He later became editor-in-chief at Blockworks. In 2017, he co-founded Crypto Briefing and is also a founding member of the Association of Cryptocurrency Journalists and Researchers.
He cites the chance to introduce a new editorial and content vision for Cointelegraph as a significant motivator for returning to this role.
While outlining his vision for Cointelegraph’s multi-platform content, Rice expressed, “Technology is neutral, a fact that is swiftly gaining recognition among high-ranking government officials worldwide. However, people can have good or bad intentions. Our platform will aim to celebrate the positive potential of Web3 technologies while holding bad actors accountable.”
Rice acknowledged the new challenges crypto media faces due to AI advancements and heightened mainstream attention, but emphasized that Cointelegraph’s successful model positions the company well for the future.
“Cointelegraph has solidified its strategy under current leadership, establishing successful ancillary ventures such as Decentralization Guardians, Formula agency, and others.
Most importantly, editorial integrity and independence remain fundamental values at Cointelegraph.”
Rice added, “Creating a business that can effectively fund a robust editorial division is a challenging task. However, with Cointelegraph’s extensive reach and institutional knowledge, combined with crypto’s growing significance, this brand possesses a promising future.”
Yana Prikhodchenko, CEO of Cointelegraph, remarked, “Jon is one of the most credible and seasoned professionals in the crypto sector. He has demonstrated his capability in managing a major newsroom’s growth and attracting top talent. I am confident that he will have an immediate impact and assist us in achieving our ambitious objectives for the future.”
To kick off his tenure, Rice has promoted Geraint Price, the current head of editorial, to deputy editor-in-chief. “Geraint has laid the groundwork for an accelerated evolution in our coverage by recruiting and training skilled journalists, as well as implementing processes that have significantly enhanced Cointelegraph’s quality control. He is an exceptional journalist and editor crucial to the ongoing development of crypto media.”
