Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, the founder of Binance, shared his vision for the future of cryptocurrency, highlighting the integration of digital assets with artificial intelligence, along with significant policy updates, educational initiatives, and global advisory contributions.
During a “Fireside Chat” at WebX in Tokyo, CZ outlined substantial changes in US cryptocurrency policies.
CZ Commends Trump’s Policy Shift
He remarked that President Donald Trump openly supported digital assets in July 2024, which starkly contrasts with the earlier administration’s negative approach.
“Under the previous administration, it felt like being imprisoned due to hostile regulations,” CZ stated. He commended the advancements made during Trump’s term, referencing three bills that were passed, including laws on stablecoins and the Genius Act, while opposing central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). CZ mentioned that the administration acknowledges the disruptive potential of crypto, preferring to embrace innovation rather than lag behind in the global landscape.
Regarding artificial intelligence, CZ anticipated that cryptocurrency would serve as the primary medium of exchange for AI. “AI won’t utilize traditional fiat currencies like the US dollar or Japanese yen. It won’t depend on banks or credit cards,” he explained.
He contended that banks cater to human users, whereas blockchains provide programmable APIs that can directly connect with AI agents. Looking into the future, CZ foresaw hundreds or thousands of AI agents per individual, significantly boosting economic activity by factors of 100 or 1,000. He suggested that many of these transactions would occur as microtransactions on blockchain networks.
Focus on Education, Policy Advising, and Entrepreneurial Support
Since leaving his role at Binance, CZ has dedicated his efforts to education through his initiative Giggle Academy, which currently benefits around 50,000 children. He estimated that fully digitizing 18 years of education could cost $300 million, which is significantly less than the US government’s annual education budget of $110 billion.
CZ also disclosed that he advises at least 12 governments and world leaders, both in formal and informal capacities, on regulation, stablecoins, CBDCs, and broader cryptocurrency adoption. He praised the UAE’s leadership for fostering innovation, noting that smaller nations with robust governance tend to advance more quickly.
For entrepreneurs, CZ stressed the importance of ethical practices and long-term product development over immediate profits. He encouraged creators to develop products that deliver real value and align their passions with market demands.
Looking ahead, CZ expressed his intention to mentor and guide new founders, while his investment firm EZ Labs will support early-stage projects with not only capital but also strategic guidance.
