The CME is set to introduce options contracts for XRP and Solana futures. New features for SOL, Micro SOL, XRP, and Micro XRP futures are expected to launch within a month.
This advancement should have a positive outlook for the underlying assets if all goes according to plan, though there hasn’t been an immediate effect on prices. Market dynamics may shift in the upcoming weeks, complicating forecasts.

The CME Group experienced significant success following the launch of XRP futures a few months back, attracting institutional investments to the underlying token. These products reached $1 billion in open interest last month, prompting the CME to broaden its options.
Specifically, the CME issued a statement announcing the introduction of options for XRP and Solana futures. Investors will have the opportunity to engage in options for these contracts and their “Micro” versions. This flexibility is a key aspect of the CME’s consumer engagement strategy:
“The launch of these options contracts builds on the significant growth and increasing liquidity we have seen across our suite of Solana and XRP futures. Available in two different sizes, these contracts will offer a wide range of market participants additional choice and greater flexibility,” stated Giovanni Vicioso, the firm’s Global Head of Cryptocurrency Products.
Growth Potential for Two Tokens
The CME reported that Solana futures have totaled $22.3 billion in trades, while XRP futures have reached $16.2 billion. Notably, the former was launched two months earlier, highlighting XRP’s significant presence in the market.
FalconX and DRW plan to continue their partnership with the CME to support these new contracts. If regulators approve the CME’s proposal, options on XRP and Solana futures will commence trading on October 13.
While there are a few short-term bullish indicators, such as XRP trading peaking at two months and a potential spot ETF, their relevance may change in a month.
Nonetheless, this could represent a crucial market opportunity. The CME’s XRP and Solana futures contracts have already been positive developments for the underlying assets, and the addition of options may amplify potential gains.
