Blockstream Introduces Lightning-Liquid Swap Functionality to Mobile Wallet Through Boltz Integration
Blockstream has rolled out an update to its mobile app, allowing users to conduct swaps between the Lightning and Liquid networks, as the company reported.
Blockstream Set to Expand Trustless Swap Options
The update brings support for trustless atomic swaps between the Lightning Network and Liquid Network, as stated by the company. This functionality enables users to pay Lightning invoices directly with Liquid Bitcoin (LBTC) balances while avoiding the complexities of managing Lightning channels or inbound liquidity.
The swapping mechanism operates via the non-custodial provider Boltz and leverages cryptographic hash-locked contracts (HTLCs), ensuring that either both sides of the transaction are fulfilled or neither are. If the operation doesn’t succeed, funds are automatically returned to the original wallet.
Blockstream mentioned that this update aims to improve accessibility for fast and privacy-centric bitcoin payments.
Additionally, the company announced plans for future updates, including on-chain swaps that would allow users to transition funds across the timechain, Liquid, and Lightning from a single interface. Another anticipated feature will enable users to receive Lightning payments directly on hardware wallets, such as Blockstream Jade, per the announcement.
