Blockstream Capital Partners (BCP), a cryptocurrency investment firm, announced its intention to acquire Corbiere Capital Management, a hedge fund based in Jersey that was established by Rodrigo Rodriguez in 2023, according to a press release released Thursday.
The financial specifics of the deal have not been revealed.
BCP noted that the acquisition of Corbiere will enhance its current offerings of bitcoin-linked products by incorporating equity and event-driven strategies, thus developing a multi-strategy platform for institutional investors.
This integration aims to facilitate more diversified portfolios that merge traditional securities with bitcoin-related exposures.
Rodriguez will step into the role of chief investment officer at Blockstream Capital Management, a new division within BCP.
He brings over 25 years of expertise in equity and event-driven strategies, having held positions at JPMorgan (JPM), Credit Suisse, and BlueCrest, where he was CIO of its event-driven portfolio.
The Corbiere team specializes in global equity markets, corporate actions, and tactical trading.
Komainu, a digital asset custodian backed by BCP, will offer custody, exchange connectivity, collateral management, and related corporate services through its Komainu Connect platform.
“Acquiring experienced investment teams with specialized expertise in alpha-focused strategies is central to our goal of establishing a premier global institutional bitcoin-linked investment platform,” stated PeterPaul Pardi, managing partner of Blockstream Capital Partners, in the announcement.
“As bitcoin treasury companies and publicly listed firms are increasingly holding bitcoin assets on their balance sheets, it’s essential to grasp how this influences equity pricing and volatility,” Rodriguez added in the release.
BCP is associated with Blockstream CEO Adam Back and invests across a myriad of asset classes, including venture capital, private and public equity, credit, real estate, and insurance, emphasizing Bitcoin-related financial infrastructure and products.
