Short-term gains (held one year or less) are taxed at ordinary income rates (up to 37%). On the other hand, long-term gains (held for over one year) benefit from reduced capital gains tax rates (0%, 15%, or 20%). Additionally, NFTs representing art or other items classified as “collectibles” may incur a higher collectibles capital gains tax rate, reaching up to 28%.
